April 2023
- It's not too late to pay your Woodlawn Association dues! The dues letter is available on the How to Join page if you did not recieve it or misplaced it.
- There are three vacancies on the Board that need to be filled: Vice President, Website Admin, and Welcoming Committee. Please consider helping our neighborhood by volunteering for one of these positions. The time committment is minimal. Contact the Board if insterested. The goal is the fill the positions prior to the next Woodlawn Assocation meeting on April 26.
- The next Woodlawn Association meeting for 2023 will be on April 26th at 7pm via Zoom. The connection information is included in the dues letter and also available on the closed Woodlawn Group on Facebook.
- With the weather warming-up again the number of people on our neighborhood streets is increasing. Please remember to keep your dogs on a leash for the safety of everyone. Did you know it's also a Stafford County Ordinance with violations constituting a class 4 misdemeanor (a fine of not more than $250)?

- The Woodlawn Association dues letters have been mailed out. Please contact the Board if you did not receive one. The annual dues of $30 is due at the end of March.

- Congratulations to 13 Fox Run Lane for winning the first annual Woodlawn Holiday House Contest!
- Celebrate the holiday season with your Woodlawn neighbors on Thursday, December 15 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at 10 Woodlawn Terrace. There will be a fire with s'mores and hot cocoa along with activities and crafts for children.
- Get ready for Woodlawn’s first Holiday House Decorating Contest! Any home with holiday decorations is eligible to be nominated. Winners and prizes will be announced and awarded on Tuesday, December 20. Please see our closed Woodlawn Group on Facebook for more details.

- Thank you to everyone who made the annual Woodlawn Turkey Trot a big success, especially the organizers Carolyn Woodson and Ferida Cralle!
- The annual Woodlawn Turkey Trot will be on Thanksgiving Day starting at 8:30 AM. Please see our closed Woodlawn Group on Facebook for more information and to sign up.

- A big THANK YOU to our neighbors who volunteered to serve on the Board! Please visit the Board page to see the new Board, which is effective November 1, 2022.
- The Chili Cook-Off was a success! Thank you to everyone who helped organize the event and to the chefs. This year's winners were: (1) Brian Liska, (2) Matt Haase, and (3) Joe Cralle. Congrats!
- The Woodlawn Fall Yard Sale is scheduled for Saturday, October 15.
- The Woodlawn Chili Cook-Off will be held on Saturday, October 22 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM in Victory Court and is being held in conjunction with the Woodlawn Association Regular Meeting.
- The Woodlawn Association needs you! All Board Officer positions are open this year: President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Per the By-Laws, each of these positions are two year terms and the current Board has reached this limit. If you are interested, but have questions, then please reach out to the current Board and they will be happy to answer them. Also, the current Board will, of course, train and assist the new Board in getting acquainted with their positions as well as continuing to support Woodlawn. Finally, the Woodlawn Association By-Laws provides additional information about the roles and responsibilities the Board and each Officer position.

- Mike Coffey is organizing another trash cleanup of Cleremont Drive around Weis Market this Saturday, September 17, at 9:00 AM and is in need of volunteers for about 30 minutes. Leather or heavy cotton work gloves are required since there are often broken bottles to pickup. Come help keep our Subdivision clean!

- The Woodlawn Association Annual Ice Cream Social will be held on Saturday, July 30 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at 11 Steeplechase Road. Some items are still needed to support this event. Please contact Raechel Katz via the Woodlawn Group on Facebook for more information.

- The Woodlawn Association Annual Meeting will be held on April 27 at 7:00 PM via Zoom. The Zoom information is posted on our closed Woodlawn Group on Facebook on April 20 by Linnea Haase.

- Andrew Manson is taking over as the Woodlawn Association President and Mike Coffey is taking over as the Vice President. Thanks to Andrew and Mike for filling these important roles, and thanks to Bill Kerner for serving as President the past two years!

- The Woodlawn Association Annual Meeting will be held on April 27, 2022 at 7:00 PM via Zoom. The Zoom link will be sent by email and also posted to our closed Facebook group as we get closer to the meeting.
- Be on the lookout for the Woodlawn Association dues letter that is being mailed the week of February 6, 2022. The dues letter is also available on the How to Join page.

- The R-Board temporarily waived the landfill fees at the Eskimo Hill site for residential yard debris following the snowstorm on January 1-2. The wavier is in effect until January 17.
- The Dominion Energy app is highly recommended. With the app you can report power outages and get estimates for when power will be restored. You can also report outages and view status on the Dominion Energy website.

- Unfortunately, the trolley is not available for our annual Christmas Caroling event. Alternatively, the Woodlawn Association is hosting a Winter Social on Tuesday, December 21st from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at 10 Woodlawn Terrace. Hot chocolate will be provided.
- Criminals recently used the email addresses on our Woodlawn Association website in spoofing/phishing attempts. As a result, all email addresses throughout the Woodlawn Association website have been removed except for woodlawnboard@gmail.com. Everyone is highly encouraged to join our closed Woodlawn Group on Facebook. That is the best way to communicate with the Board and neighbors. To learn more about phishing, spoofing, and other common internet scams and crimes, and how to protect yourself, please visit the FBI's Common Scams and Crimes website. If you received a suspicious email, then please use the FBI's website to report it.

- The Woodlawn Chili Cook-Off has returned! Come out and share your secret chili recipe and see if you can dethrone Greg DuChane our reigning champion. If you don't want to compete still come out and sample the entries. We are always looking for pop-up shelters and tables. HOA will provide bowls, spoons, etc. but you may want to bring your own chairs (and adult beverages). Our new neighbor, Megan Bruce on Aiken, has volunteered to lead the planning effort but will need help with setup, clean up, etc. Please contact Megan if you are interested in competing or helping with the event.
- The Woodlawn Turkey Trot will start at 8:30 AM on Thanksgiving Day at 3 Steeplechase Road. There will be three distances: 5K Turkey Trot at 8:30 AM, 1 Mile Turkey Trot at 9:30 AM, and 1/4 Mile Drumstick Dash at 10:00 AM. Please sign up using Sign Up Genius.

- The next Woodlawn Association regular meeting will be held on October 20, 2021 at 7:00 PM via Zoom. The purpose of the meeting is to elect officers for the Board. The link, meeting ID, and passcode for the Zoom meeting were emailed by Kelly Conerly on October 13 and are also posted in the Woodlawn Group on Facebook. Please contact Kelly if you need the Zoom meeting details.
- The Woodlawn Association needs you! The current Officers of the Board have been in their positions for two years. Please consider volunteering. ARTICLE V of the By-Laws breifly describes the duties of each Officer. Please also reach out to the current Officers if you would like more details.

- Several neighbors have recently witnessed suspicious activity in Woodlawn. Please help keep our neighborhood safe by reporting suspicious persons and/or activity to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office at (540) 658-4400. You can also report a tip to the Stafford Crime Solvers by calling (540) 659-2020, texting "Stafford + your tip" to CRIMES (274637), or online at Stafford Crime Solvers. All tips reported to Stafford Crime Solvers are anonymous and tips resulting in arrest could earn you a reward up to $1,000! Visit the Stafford Crime Solvers for more information. - The La Empanada Sabrosa food truck will be in Victory Court on Saturday, August 28 at 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM serving empanadas. Here is their food truck menu.
- The Woodlawn Ice Cream Social is scheduled for 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM on August 7 in Victory Court. This is an annual event which in the past had been held in conjunction with National Night Out, but National Night Out has been postponed until October and we need ice cream in the Summer! The Ice Cream Social is a great way to meet new neighbors and reconnect with current neighbors or just get free ice cream. Bring a chair if you desire. We are looking for volunteers to assist with the event. In addition if anyone has a pop up canopy we can use during the event this would greatly help with the sun.
- Due to the severe storms on July 29, the R-Board has temporarily waived landfill fees through August 15 for residential yard debris. Visit the R-Board website for more information.

- Trash pickup day is scheduled for Saturday, June 19. Several volunteers are needed starting at 9:00 AM. Please meet at the intersection of Cleremont and Steeplechase. Leather workgloves are recommended.
- Thanks to Bill Kerner and Andrew Manson for working with Stafford County to get the vacant lot next to Weis cleaned up!

- Some of the dues letters were returned to sender by USPS this year. If you did not receive a letter, please contact Linnea Haase and she will deliver another copy to you.
